She walked into the room … Listening to the music playing …
She liked the song he was singing and she told him so.
And later that night … As he put his arms around her shoulders
He was feeling a little bolder, but she told him “No!”

“Don’t expect me to love you. I don’t want to lose myself.
I don’t want to feel those mysteries hiding deep inside.
Don’t expect me to love you. I don’t want to lose my heart.
I don’t want to ever depend on anyone.
No, I don’t want to fall in love.”

They made love that night, and stayed in bed throughout the morning.
She was soft and warm and he was gentle when they touched.
Then they went to a park, cracking jokes as they smelled the roses.
His eyes were soft as he drew her closer, but she told him — once again

He started seeing more and more of her.
She cooked him dinner; he fixed her car.
Sometimes at night she’d call him and ask him if he’d come …
To chase the lonely from the dark.

But after a while – she felt that she wanted her freedom
She was afraid she’d begun to need him all the time
So she stayed far away … with the hope that soon he’d leave
But he couldn’t believe it … when she said goodbye.
She told him

“Don’t make me to love you. I don’t want to lose myself.
I don’t want to feel those mysteries hiding deep inside.
Don’t make me to love you. I don’t want to lose my heart.
I don’t want to ever depend on anyone.
No, I don’t want to fall in love.”

Night after night – he had to face that empty feeling
He blamed himself … although he had done nothing wrong.
But after a while – he began to understand her reasons –
And now when he thinks of her … he can hear this song.
