These Things Brings Me Home Again – © 2015 by Myron Schreck
When I’m disoriented, and I can’t find my way, I picture a little cottage beside a silver lake. The scent of jasmine mixed with hyacinth and rose: these things bring me home … again.
I have a secret power: I travel back in time. I pick a distant moment and focal point my mind: A frying pan with mushrooms, onions, eggs and kale. These things bring me home again.
A glass of wine … on a table made of wooden slats. A broken sign hanging … near an old wrinkled photograph. A solo guitar playing … an old-time lullaby. A golden sunset fills the sky. And as the night grows dark … and shadows disappear … I melt away … I don’t know where.
My body’s old and weary; the years have not been kind. I treasure all my memories; they’re all I’ve left inside. The way you laugh and smile; the way you hum a tune. All these things bring me home to you.
