I LET HER GO © 2014 by Myron Schreck
I let her go without a sound. I watched her leave to see if she might turn around. Her happiness means so much to me. I made her so sad so I had to let her go.
I let her go without a word. And when she said, it’s all my fault, I just demurred. I let her go. I stifled my tears. But when she left my whole world disappeared.
We started out as passionate as summer. We found so many things that we could share. But time would soon reveal … that we conceal so many doubts and fear. What we hide in our hearts … can keep us apart.
I let her down. She trusted me. Her eyes expressed surprise, regret and disbelief. I held my breath. I could not speak. I let her down so I had to let her go.
I let her go – my fantasy. The life I’d imagined, I know now can never be. She needs to find a love she can always rely on. But I’m not the one. It’s not me, I know. I would only make her sad … so I had to let her go.
