I lived in Chicago, when I was a kid. Don’t know why I stayed as long as I did. When I left Chicago, I thought I’d never return. But I was young then and I had a lot to learn.
Now I’m going back. Back to Chicago. Back to the home of my blues. I’m going back. Back to Chicago. Back ’cause I gotta pay my dues.
I went to school there and learned the golden rule. Never try to stop a fight, unless you’re a fool. … Yeah, I’d done some fighting, and once almost died. But I’m not afraid, … and that’s the reason why … I’m going back. Back to Chicago. Back to the home of my blues. I’m going back. Back to Chicago. Back ’cause I gotta pay my dues.
No matter where I wander. No matter where I roam. I’ll always think of Chicago as being my home sweet home. The hot summer days and the cold winter nights. The jazz and the blues, and the bright city lights. I’m going back. Back to Chicago. Back to the home of my blues. I’m going back. Back to Chicago. Back ’cause I gotta pay my dues.
