Windy City – cold & damp
Got no money – Got no friends
So what do I do? Where do I go?
I think I know the answer
Back to Big Easy, back where I was born,
It may be hot & steamy
But it’s home sweet home,
I’m gonna pack my bags
And head on back
Back to Louisiana
City life with those shifty eyes
No one has an honest smile
And every snow turns black as coal
Gotta go south to where sun loves to shine
Jambalaya, jumbo shrimp,
Oysters and crabs
And those sweet onions
Gonna pack my bags
And head on back
Back to Louisiana
Nothing can beat that Gulf Coast breeze
Blowing all along the levees
Spanish moss on the old oak trees
Sycamore branches
Shine in the moonlight
I can smell my mama’s cookin’
Every time I close my eyes
I can hear old Gabriel’s trumpet
Calling me home to paradise
I miss my
Muffalettas – grits and corn
The tasty beignets at the Cafe du Monde
The Columns Hotel
The Creole and Cajun rhythms
I miss the
Night-blooming Jasmine,
The Mardi Gras Rose,
The Sweet Olive Blossoms
And the bright marigolds
I’m gonna pack my bags
And head on back
Shut my mouth –
I’m heading South.
Back down South!
Back to Louisiana
