I was at a crossroads in 1980. I was on the threshold of a legal career. I was also interested in pursuing a music career. I had been accepted to an ASCAP songwriting program in L.A., but I would have had to decline an attractive job offer in a law firm. I did not go to L.A.; that was my “road not taken.” I do not regret pursuing a legal career. I ended up in Idaho where I married an incredible woman and raised a wonderful family.
Here are five tracks from before 1980 and three tracks from before 1997. In addition, you can click on the “Collection/Playlist Category” called Crossroads 1971-1987 to see additional songs from that period.

Save It For the Children © 1997 Myron Schreck
Once was a time we could hike out for miles
Cooled by the shade of the trees. And it
used to be great fishing in the lake and
drinking water right from the streams.
Now we're
Chopping down the forests.
Messing up the rivers.
Doesn't take an expert to know. We've got to
watch out how we use the land and take
care that we don't abuse the land
'cause we have to
Save it for the children - or there
won't be anything left
Not long ago skies were so clear. You could
see for dozens of miles. Now everywhere you
go --- all you see is smog --- and
everybody's rubbing their eyes ---
Coughing and wheezing; choking and sneezing
Doesn't take a doctor to see. We've got to
protect all the air we breathe. We've got to
share it with the plants and trees.
And we have to
Save it for the children - or there
won't be anything left
The first step to take when you plan for the future
Is knowing if something is wrong - 'cause if we
don't start to change and find a solution
There won't be a future at all
Take a close look at all the people in the city
Not just the ones who have homes ---
Some have to sleep in the parks and the alleys
Some have nowhere to go.
Life without hope --- you can't call living.
And it doesn't take a prophet to see
If we don't show some care and sympathy
If we don't help and give some charity
Then we're gonna
Lose it for the children - and there
won't be anything left
Black and white, red and yellow.
Lots of people live on this earth.
Dissin' and fighting; Hatred and resentment
Sometimes even church against church
When every disagreement leads to a killing
Then it doesn't take an angel to see
We've got to find the path of empathy
We've got to learn to live in harmony
And we have to
Teach it to the children - or there
won't be anything left
Teach it to ... Teach it to the children
Teach it to the children
or there won't be anything left
Believe in Destiny
BELIEVE IN DESTINY - © 1997 by Myron Schreck
She chose -- to take control,
To raise a child -- although alone
She worked hard -- day and night
And wanted someone to share her home
Now after all the pain she suffered
And just before she lost her dreams
She found a love to last forever
-– now she believes in destiny
She believes in destiny
He avoided making choices
He traveled from town to town
He wanted a home and family,
But he was afraid to settle down
Now after all the pain he suffered
And just before he lost his dreams
He found a love to last forever
-– now he believes in destiny
He believes in destiny
They lived in the same city
They just happened to meet one night
Two children and ten years later,
They're together for the rest of their life
Now after all the pain they suffered
And just before they lost their dreams
They found a love to last forever
-– now they believe in destiny
They believe in destiny
It's hard to see into the future
The best laid plans of women and men
Are risks you take and dreams you dream
Of what can be and what could have been
And after all the pain you suffer
And just before you lose your dreams
If you find a love to last forever
-– then you'll believe in destiny
You'll believe in destiny
Mysteries of Love
Mysteries of Love -- © 1997 by Myron Schreck
Remember back when we were young,
I asked you at the senior prom to dance with me
And though you came with someone else,
You smiled and told me, "yes," and took my hand
Our high school band played something slow,
Familiar on the radio, called "Stay With Me,"
And looking in each others' eyes,
We could see the mysteries of love
Infatuation --- anticipation
--- quickly turned to passionate fire
Years of devotion --- and shared emotions
--- kept the fire warm and bright
Married when we're just nineteen,
Cause we believed our love would last eternally.
Life was hard and jobs were few,
But we both knew we'd make if we tried
Now I can't say we've done it all,
But in our way we found some small ecstasy
What started with a teen-age dance,
Soon revealed the mysteries of love
What makes a heart ache with love at first sight?
Why do your knees shake with each kiss goodnight ?
Why stay together through the tears and the fights;
Admit you're wrong, and swallow your pride?
I have learned a lot of things,
Like compromise and listening patiently
But even so, I won't pretend
To understand the mysteries of love
